Tutoring Services and Experience
Lisa grew up in rural Alberta debating politics with her father, writing articles for the school newspaper, and running the students’ council. Determined to make a difference in the world, she headed off to the University of Alberta to study Political Science and History. Over the course of her degree, she became progressively interested in China and eventually traveled abroad in 2004 to teach English and study Chinese. It is during this period that she realized she had a talent for teaching and helping others.

During her Master of Arts at the University of Toronto from 2005-2007, she had an opportunity to assist Professors in the teaching of two Political Science courses and continued to tutor students on the side, in not only ESL, but her true passions – writing and critical thinking. After graduation, still not really taking a career in teaching seriously, she worked in a few public policy and research related jobs, including: political intern in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing and as a Research Coordinator for the University of Toronto on an HIV/AIDS Prevent project in Shanghai. All this time, tutoring various students part-time.

Finally, in 2010, Lisa decided to consider teaching, editing, and writing as a full-time career option. She published her first short story in February 2010 and is currently working on a travel memoir about her various adventures in China. She also established her blog where she writes writing and study tips. After two years in California, she returned to Toronto in 2012 and began developing a writing curriculum at the Canada Creative Education Centre, completed a Teaching ESL certificate, and took on a full load of one-on-one students.

Now, she provides one-on-one sessions to clients who need help with academic essays or applications. She teaches a variety of courses in fiction and non-fiction composition. Finally, she edits academic essays, theses, and proposals for students and Professors.

Helping others to succeed brings her a real sense of joy and achievement. To Lisa, her students are more than just a number, they are unique individuals with their own special talents to share with the world.
